Values and Principles

I do my best to live by these values in my daily life (amongst others). Some of these are borrowed from the Hakomi model and others are what I believe is super value while holding space in a therapy session.

❋ Mindfulness

This element is integrated into the sessions when the client is ready. Explorations into one’s inner world are aimed to be done in a state of mindfulness. This is to assure that all elements of the exploration have an opportunity to be discovered. It’s a lot about slowing things down so as to really see what is happening.

It is important to me that you are aware of where I am at in my training and qualifications as a therapist. If this is unclear, please ask. At any time, If I believe that what the client brings is out of my scope of expertise I will respectfully defer them to someone else.

❋ Transparency/Honesty
❋ Non-Violence

Borrowed form a Buddhist ideal and a Hakomi principle. This seems to go to subtler and subtler levels. In the context of therapy, it’s really applying it in a way that will support the client to change without force. Not taking the client further then they are able to process.

❋ Loving Presence

I can see in my own life how much healing is possible in a space of loving presence. There is a possibility of accepting my own inner world and bringing things to the surface. This is how I aim to show up for each session and provide a safe space for inner exploration and discovery.

❋ Trust the Process

Life seems to have it’s own natural rhythm and each system in it seems to naturally want to find a place of balance (healing). During sessions, I’m really there to support the clients natural unfolding.

This is probably my number one value. I try to be kind in all my interactions in daily life. I have noticed that so much of my ability to make permanent change within myself has been due primarily to shifting my inner state to a place of kindness. From here it seems anything has the safe possibility to come up for healing.

❋ Kindness

With an engineering background I am fascinated with how things work and how they are connected. So much of my own experience and research of scientists in this field has demonstrated to me how much our bodies can hold what is in our consciousness.
